Surtitle - Have you heard of those?

I recently had an opportunity to work for a stage play. It was interesting and had its challenges but I would stick with movie making any day (no disrespect to theater; in fact I developed appreciation for theater after that.) Anyway, what I learnt was that it was possible to display something similar to subtitles and those are called surtitles or super titles! Here is an opensource software that offers this capability: http://subtitles.nova-cinema.org/home.en.php
Let me know if you know of any other tools - better yet let me know of opensource tools that can be used in subtitling movies.

Enter the next level of cinematography

As a film-maker I always keep my eyes open to find new products that would help me make better movies. You also know that I blogged about "filming without any shake" not so far back. Anyway much along the same lines, here are two cool products I recently learned about.

Have you heard about SoloShot?
Check out https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tc7AZWaHm4o

Do you think it is cool? Now check out this; it is called Lily... I think this is amazing!

Did I hear you say "I want that" :) I too want that... See its tech spec here.
By the way I am not associated with any of these products.

I think products like these open the doors to the next chapter of cinematography and hence fiction and non-fiction movie making.

Let me know if you know of any other cool products that would help make neat movies.

One actor movies

I saw Locke by mere accident and I felt that it was not upto my taste - sorry! On the other hand I was ok with Gravity!
Tell me what you think about such movies. Do you like them or hate them?

Conflict and Endings in your Screenplay

Here is a nice blog about endings. It is said that Edgar Allen Poe used to write his endings first and then write his story to match that ending. This blog also recommends that: http://thescriptlab.com/screenwriting/structure/the-outline/72-endings-and-beginnings
And here's how you can make your stories interesting and appealing to your audience: http://thescriptlab.com/screenwriting-101/screenwriting/script-tips/464-character-want-conflict-story#

Fund Raising for your Indie Film

This is not the usual filmmaking blog. This one is on developing your own fund raising site just like kick starter. But why would you want to develop one instead of using kick starter? Probably whatever that is offered by Kickstarter does not work for you... or you want a custom look and feel.

Here is what I could come up with! http://github4yash-bitstarter-mooc.herokuapp.com How did I do it?  Read this write-up on an interesting online course which I took and ended up creating that one pager websit:  https://forgetfulprogrammer.wordpress.com/2013/09/07/stanfords-startup-engineering-is-pretty-cool/

And here is the course website http://startup.stanford.edu

If you do not want to sign up for the course, and if you are tech savvy then you can simply follow the instructions here: http://www.selfstarter.us/

Good luck with your fund raising!

How to fund my indie film?

I am back to square one again :(

After finishing a script for a feature length film am now looking for the core team and funds. This has been a daunting challenge for me forever!  How do I raise funds? Connection! Here are some of the links I found - I will keep updating any progress I make, so it can help you folks:

From http://goodinaroom.com/blog/indie-movies/: "There are TONS of great grant-making organizations for films (especially first time features, docs, and social justice films). Sundance, SFFS, Film Independent, IFP,Chicken and Egg, Catapult Film Fund. It’s also really helpful to know how to write a great grant application."

I found the following on the Web but need to figure out how to approach them:

If you have successfully funded your indie film let me know how you did it!
