After my last post, I learnt that
RoseGarden is much easier for what I want to do and it also is integrated with Lilly Pond so still can print sheet music that I always wanted. Check it out! It is available for Windows and Unix flavours.
RoseGarden seems to be an exhaustive solution for music composers.
